Pets need nutrients - not just ingredients. Every Pet Promise ingredient provides important nutrients without using byproducts or rendered protein.

It Starts With Our No’s
Unlike many companies in the market today, we describe our products based upon what is not in our formulations. From the outset, we made a commitment to let byproducts be bygones. That meant eliminating the rendered proteins that have supplied the foundation for commercial pet foods for decades.

Because of our new approach to pet nutrition, we selected each ingredient according to the attributes it would provide for our formulations.

Real Natural Meat & Poultry as the Lead Ingredient in Every Product
Every Pet Promise product begins with natural meat and poultry or fish sourced from animals that were never given added growth hormones or antibiotics. Nearly all other pet foods utilize meat or poultry meals and by-product meals to deliver the protein needed by dogs and cats. (Learn more at the box on the right). Pet Promise never includes recycled meats, or meat sourced from sickened “downer” animals.

Brewer’s Rice: Highly Digestible Carbohydrate
Brewer’s Rice is the small fragments of rice kernels that have been separated from the larger pieces of whole rice. Brewer’s Rice is used in Pet Promise as an excellent source of carbohydrates for energy. It provides rapidly available carbohydrates and is the most digestible of the cereal grains.

Corn Gluten Meal: High in Methionine
Corn gluten meal is different from the traditional corn grain used in many pet foods. Corn gluten meal is the high-protein part of the corn kernel that remains when the starch, bran, and germ are extracted. Pet Promise uses highly digestible corn gluten meal for its essential vitamins and minerals, in addition to its role as a rich source of the essential amino acid methionine, which is important to overall pet health.

Corn and corn gluten meal are often blamed as the source of allergic reactions in companion animals. However, corn gluten meal is - in fact - among the least allergenic ingredients for pets. Additionally, according to veterinary dermatologists, corn is not listed as an ingredient most often suspected of causing food allergies.

Egg Product: High in Lysine
Egg product, obtained from egg graders, breakers and hatcheries, is used in Pet Promise because it is recognized as the highest quality protein and an excellent source of the essential amino acids lysine and methionine.

Egg product is also an excellent source of many minerals, vitamins and the essential fatty acid, Linoleic acid. This fatty acid is especially important in helping maintain healthy skin and a shiny coat.

Oat Groats: High in Carbohydrates & Protein
Oat groats are cleaned oats with the hulls removed. We use them in Pet Promise as an excellent source of both carbohydrates and protein.

Pearled Barley: High in Soluble Fiber
Pearled barley is produced from whole barley seeds that have been scoured to remove the seed hull and bran. Used in Pet Promise as an excellent source of both carbohydrates and fiber, pearled barley also provides protein.

Due to its unique nutritional makeup, modest amounts of slowly digested starch and the soluble fiber-glucan, pearled barley is more digestible than whole or cracked barley.

Soy Flour: High in Lysine and Tryptophan
Soy flour is the finely powdered material resulting from dehulled, defatted soybeans. It contains about 50% protein and is used in Pet Promise as a protein source. Soy flour is a rich source of the essential amino acids lysine and tryptophan. It also provides carbohydrates and soluble fiber.

Meals Derived from Meat,
Poultry & Byproducts

Meat or poultry meals and byproducts meals are used in many pet foods as a source of protein.

Meat and poultry meals may contain rendered proteins. Rendering is the process that uses very high temperatures to cook the leftovers and waste products of the meat industry.

Byproduct meals may contain ‘secondary’ items from meat animals, including some of the internal organs such as spleens, lungs, and intestines.

Meat & Poultry from Conventionally Raised Animals

In today’s industrialized agricultural system, animals such as beef cows are commonly injected with or fed hormones simply to make them grow more quickly.

Animals raised in these overcrowded situations are also commonly fed low doses of antibiotics.

Natural Meat, Poultry, and Fish
in Pet Promise

Meat and poultry used in Pet Promise is sourced only from animals that were never given added growth hormones or antibiotics.

We only use natural meat, and never rendered meals.

We use natural meat or poultry as our lead ingredients, and balance our formulation with ingredients that supply additional protein, vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids necessary for a healthy diet.
