My kitty valentine; part 2
Leilani, a truly feminine feline decked out in elegant black and white fur, is everyone's favorite. She has a Hawaiian name, which means "heavenly flower." Being that she's almost 15, she's the top cat in the house. Leilani is also the 'meet and greet' kitty; she checks out anyone who comes in the door. If she likes you, she will wait for a back scratch, if not, she goes off to nap in another room.
Leilani acts like, and is treated like, the princess she is. She never gets barked at, yelled at, or told she is ever doing anything wrong. Once she knocked over a bunch of plants in the living room, spilling dirt everywhere. What happened? Everyone rushed to make sure Leilani was okay. Even though Leilani outranks me in seniority and position, I don't mind. I think it's neat to live with royalty.
Name: Leilani; also goes by "Princess."
Found: Almost 15 years ago her mother cat dropped her off at my person's front door.
Distinguished by: Her royal personality.
Favorite game: Watching me run in circles, and "singing."
Favorite food: Pet Promise Ocean Fish Formula and Chicken Formula.
Silliest thing she does: Grabs my fuzzy play toys and kicks them with her hind feet.
How I help: Leilani has diabetes and gets a shot of insulin twice a day. I like to sit by her when she gets her shot and try to look reassuring (although sometimes I shut my eyes). |
Although she's almost 15, I think Leilani still looks like a kitten. |
I could tell you more, but I need to chew my bone a bit before bedtime. Talk later.

My kitty valentine
Part of my duties as the family dog involve looking after my roommates, the cats. Now if you’ve ever lived with cats, you know that they are different from us dogs. Dogs help, cats observe. Dogs like to stay next to their person, cats disappear for a 10-hour nap. Dogs are involved in the goings-on of the house, cats wait to be served.
Despite our differences, cats and dogs can be good friends and even share the same couch to nap on. Just don’t expect any consistent behavior from them. One minute they can be purring and rubbing their head in my fur, the next minute I get a smack on the head.
All in all I care a lot about my cats and try to keep them safe. Once I helped get Pumpkin out of a closet he was stuck in by barking at the door until someone opened it (for which he didn’t even say ‘thanks’). Here are the facts, as best I know them, about one of my feline friends.
|

Skeezix sure resembles those big Maine coon cats, but he's just a little guy.
|
Name: Skeezix, also goes by “fuzzball.”
Found: On a freezing cold January day in 2003 stuck in a trap (he was just a little kitten at the time, but really hasn't gotten much bigger).
Distinguished by: Constantly talking. The only time Skeezix doesn’t have something to say is when he’s napping (however, he wakes up talking).
Favorite game: Chasing the fake mouse around and swiping at my tail (and then he talks about it).
Favorite food: Pet Promise Wild Salmon Formula (sometimes he even talks while he’s eating). He also loves Pet Promise Daily Health, which he gets in the morning.
Silliest thing he does: Watches birds in the tree outside the window, and when they fly away he looks for them in the room (and talks about it).
How I help: When Skeezix gets scared by the sounds of a storm outside, I let him snuggle up with me.
I could tell you more, but I better go for my walk now before it gets any colder. Talk later.

Resolutions and promises
Well, it's 2007 and so far I've been keeping up with my New Year's resolutions. Pumpkin cat did his best to tempt me. Just yesterday he threw three pens off a table onto the floor, but I didn't touch one!
As best I can tell, my roommates the cats have no interest in making resolutions. Apparently they believe they are perfect just the way they are. I could offer suggestions, but cats don't take critique very well. They're not as eager to get along with people as we dogs are. But please, Pumpkin, stop napping on the fluffy cushion that says "good doggie" on it!
A powerful promise
Resolutions are nice (and great if you keep them), but what Pet Promise is doing is even better.
Their promise, to change the way farm animals are raised, and companion animals (that's me) are fed, has resulted in some pretty powerful happenings.
Here's the scoop, since 2005 (way back when I was three) Pet Promise has helped eliminate over 49 million doses of antibiotics in the food chain, and over 8 million doses of artificial growth hormones that are fed to cattle. They do it by working with family farmers and ranchers all over the U.S. who also have made a promise -- not to give their animals any added antibiotics or growth hormones and to use sustainable methods of farming. For Pet Promise, it's like every day is Earth Day!
I could tell you more, but I hear my bowl being filled with Pet Promise right this very minute. Talk later.

New year, new 'do'
It's a bit early for my "spring" cut, but there was this little incident involving me and some mud. |
